Fable Book Automata

Fable Books are part storytelling, part mechanical paper sculpture, or automata. Automata (aa·TAA·muh·tuh) dates back to Greek mythology. It combines art with engineering, using intricate arrangements of gears, cranks, and cams to power movement.
For my Fable Books, I write original modern-day takes on morality tales, focusing on freedom and fairness for all. I paint scenes in watercolor to illustrate the fables, then hand-cut and assemble prints of the art into a layered paper diorama. I arrange the diorama inside a wooden book with hidden mechanical movements that animate the art and bring the stories to life. Please note Fable Books are not intended for children, both due to the stories and the fragile nature of moving paper sculptures. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity.
